In Oshawa a driveway can cover no more than 50% of the front yard, so at least half stays landscaped. If the widening needs the curb cut, you need an Access to Property Permit from the City first. Curb cut requests are reviewed from April 1 to November 30, and the City asks for at least 10 business days and a site visit.

Oshawa's Site Alteration By-law requires a permit to change the grade within 0.6 m of a property line, to change any swale or ditch that drains land, or to bring in more than 20 cubic metres of fill. Ordinary lawn dressing and garden bed work below those limits does not need one.
